Yellowknifers once again get to watch their city play host to the Amazing Race Canada this week.
On Tuesday at 7pm MT, an episode on CTV entitled “I Love Geologists” takes the 10 participants to the NWT for various northern-inspired challenges as they try to win $250,000.
While secrecy surrounds each episode before it airs, preview videos show contestants inspecting diamonds, jumping into icy waters, and two teams getting into a shouting match over a City Cab taxi.
The reality TV series pits teams of two against each other in a race across Canada divided into different legs.
Each leg requires participants to find show host and Olympic skeleton gold-medallist Jon Montgomery at a “pit stop” where they are given clues to complete the leg’s challenges.
The race takes participants across Canada and the ultimate goal is to be the first team to cross the finish line.
Teams were in Yellowknife filming the episode this spring.
Cast and crew were sworn to secrecy about the nature of the stop in the city. However, when Montgomery was spotted arriving at Yellowknife’s airport on April 29, it became apparent Yellowknife would once again host the racers.
The first season of the show, in 2013, featured Yellowknife’s Pilots’ Monument, a run across Yellowknife Bay, and an ice-cold dip in the waters of Great Slave Lake. The show’s fourth season – this year’s is the seventh – also made a stop in the city.
CTV says the show is the most-watched entertainment series broadcast in Canada this summer, with two million viewers tuning in to the premiere.
