Kandis Jameson will serve as Hay River’s mayor for another term.

Jameson was acclaimed on Monday as she was the only candidate to put her name forward for the position.

Speaking to Cabin Radio before nominations closed, Jameson said she looked forward to economic development opportunities in the region.

She highlighted Hay River’s new fish plant, plans to reopen the Pine Point mine, and efforts to grow the local agricultural sector.

“I’m very optimistic over the next three years. There’s work to be done, obviously. But I’m looking forward to the next three years. I really am,” she said.

This will be Jameson’s third term in office. She was previously acclaimed as mayor in 2018 and 2021.

Eleven people are running to serve on Hay River’s council while nominations to be a member of Hay River’s district education authority have been extended to October 1 at 3pm.

Election day will take place on October 21 with an advance poll on October 8.
