Jody Wilson-Raybould is set to deliver the keynote address at a Yellowknife event ahead of International Women’s Day.

The Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce has hosted a Trailblazers Symposium annually celebrating female entrepreneurs and leaders.

Matt Halliday, executive director of the chamber, said the event features “qualified, amazing” speakers with the goal of “setting the stage that anything is possible.”

“It’s just been a great opportunity to bring in somebody like Jody’s caliber to have a conversation with individuals and kind-of share their journey as well as highlighting different points that relate to us here in the North,” he said.

Wilson-Raybould is a lawyer, author, former politician and advocate for Indigenous rights. She was Canada’s first Indigenous minister of justice and attorney general, was the first woman to be elected as an independent member of parliament representing Vancouver Granville, and has published four books.

Halliday said attendees at this year’s symposium in Yellowknife can “expect a thought-provoking discussion on the challenges and opportunities of leadership today, the importance of ethical decision-making, and how we can all contribute to fostering stronger, more inclusive communities.”

“This is a keynote that will inspire, challenge, and leave a lasting impact,” he said.

This year’s symposium is set to take place on Friday, March 7 at the Chateau Nova Hotel with doors opening at 11:30am. It will include a buffet lunch and speech followed by a book signing and networking event.

Tickets for the event were previously sold out but more tickets are now available for purchase on the chamber’s website.
