Registration is open for Yellowknife’s annual Canada Day parade, which returns on Tuesday, July 1 with a new route.

The parade begins at 11am from the new aquatic centre parking lot, heading north along Franklin Avenue. It then turns east on 48 Street and ends at École Sir John Franklin High School. Entrants are advised to arrive by 10:30am.

Road closures are expected in downtown Yellowknife, so drivers should plan accordingly. To avoid congestion, participating groups are asked to choose a meeting spot near the route – either before the school or just past the parade’s endpoint – where members can gather and organize rides.

The 2025 theme is “northern animals.”

The Canada Day Mile, a running race now in its fourth year, opens the day’s celebrations and clears the route for the parade. A bicycle decorating contest is also part of the festivities.
