The City of Yellowknife is planning a test of a new emergency notification system next week.
The city announced that, at 2pm on Thursday, July 17, residents will receive a test emergency notification through Voyent Alert!
The municipality began using the notification system in May.
To receive alerts, residents must be registered with Voyent Alert!.
The city said people who are registered with the service will receive the upcoming test alert through their chosen contact method, which includes mobile app, email, text message or automated phone call.
The city has said it plans to use Voyent Alert! to send notifications about wildfires, severe weather and local emergencies.
People can receive emergency notifications for Yellowknife, Ndılǫ, Dettah and parts of the Ingraham Trail.
Users can set pins for the locations they want to receive notifications for and do not have to be physically located in Yellowknife to use the service.
Voyent Alert! is a separate alert system from NWT Alert, which is managed by the NWT government. The city recommends that Yellowknife residents use both Voyent Alert! and NWT Alert.
