RCMP say they arrested and charged a male youth after a vehicle was stolen outside Yellowknife’s McDonald’s on Thursday evening.

RCMP told Cabin Radio that officers received a call around 11:30pm regarding a fight in progress at the restaurant on Old Airport Road.

Police said during that fight, a youth, who was not involved in the fight, “took advantage of the situation” and stole the vehicle of one of the people involved.

The youth cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

RCMP said officers attended the scene and formed multiple patrols to locate the vehicle with assistance from police dog services.

RCMP charged the youth with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, flight from a peace officer, and failure to comply with an undertaking.

Police said they released the youth on conditions until his next court appearance.
