The annual Friendship Breakfast in downtown Yellowknife, now one decade old, is a chance to build bridges between the city’s homeless population and the rest of the community by breaking bread and sharing stories.
On Wednesday morning, August 6, a warm welcome is extended by the Yellowknife True North Rotary Club, McDonald’s Restaurants and Cabin Radio to those who call the core area home – whether they have a roof over their heads or are sleeping rough for whatever reason.
In past years, as many as 170 breakfast sandwiches and countless cups of coffee were served by Rotarians and other volunteers.
Rotarian Marilyn Robak started the Friendship Breakfast about 10 years ago to get to know some of the people in Yellowknife who don’t have homes.
You can find the gathering at Somba K’e Park and there’s more information about the event on this page.
Please bring a donation for one of the shelters in Yellowknife. Needed items are: soap, razors, shaving cream, travel toothbrushes, socks, summer shoes, feminine hygiene products, playing cards, games, books (especially northern or Indigenous authors), pyjamas, sweats, T-shirts, boxers, bras, and small sewing kits.
You can listen to our live broadcast from the Friendship Breakfast on Mornings at the Cabin from 7-9am.
