RCMP in Ulukhaktok say they have arrested and charged a 43-year-old man in connection with a firearm complaint outside the community.

In a Thursday press release, police said they received a report around 5:17pm on Tuesday alleging a person had fired a gun toward an occupied cabin.

RCMP said officers safely evacuated the lone occupant of that cabin. Shortly afterward, police said a suspect who was intoxicated surrendered himself to officers.

Police said a loaded rifle was recovered from the scene. No injuries were reported.

RCMP have charged Adam Ekpakohak with careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
