The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre has announced the appointment of Shannon Lyman as its new executive director and Kacie Hall as artistic director.

“This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the organization’s creative vision and work across the territory,” the centre stated in a news release.

Lyman and Hall will “work collaboratively to maintain the organization’s history of high-quality programming while expanding its artistic reach and exploring new opportunities for community engagement,” the news release added.

With a 297-seat theatre based in Yellowknife, the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre, or NACC, is a non-profit charitable organization that supports performance artists and arts programming across the NWT.

The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors and currently has a team of five staff.

As executive director, Lyman is responsible for the general administration and operation of NACC and the development and implementation of fundraising campaigns.

As artistic director, Hall is responsible for all NACC programming, facilitating use of the space by community members and overseeing patron experiences.

Marie Coderre previously served as NACC’s executive and artistic director for more than a decade. Coderre left the role in the summer.

According to Wednesday’s news release, Lyman, who has called Yellowknife home since 2011, is “a key contributor to the local non-profit musical and theatre community.” She currently teaches dance at Bella Dance Academy and is a volunteer board member for Ptarmigan Ptheatrics.

Lyman will continue her work as a negotiator for the NWT government on modern treaties as she takes on her new position as executive director of NACC.

Lyman’s “vision is to grow performing arts in the NWT, creating inspiring experiences for artists and audiences alike, in venues that strengthen community connections,” the press release stated.

Hall grew up in Yellowknife and began working with NACC as the manager of communications and community outreach in 2023.

Hall holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dramatic arts, specializing in directing and theatre creation.

“She is honoured to be continuing the work of those who came before her, and to help lead NACC into its next chapter while building programming that connects audiences and artists through authentic performances,” Wednesday’s news release stated.
