The NWT government has opened applications for its Youth Water Stewardship and Mentorship Grant Program.
The program provides funding to youth aged 18 to 30 to lead community projects and events that support the goals of the territory’s water stewardship strategy.
“Water stewardship is critical to ensuring the long-term health and sustainability of waterways in the Northwest Territories,” the Department of Environment and Climate Change stated in a news release.
“This grant program fosters youth engagement and capacity building, helping cultivate future water leaders committed to protecting and preserving clean, abundant and productive waters for generations to come.”
Eligible applicants can apply for up to $1,000 for a one to two day community event or up to $3,500 for longer, more complex community projects.
People have until June 26, 2026 to apply. Projects must be completed before March 31, 2027.
