Anna Lambe and North of North win Canadian Screen Awards

Anna Lambe won best lead performer in a comedy for her role as Siaja in North of North as the show won best comedy series and seven other honours at the Canadian Screen Awards on Sunday.

The show was awarded best guest performance for a comedy for Tanya Tagaq’s appearances in the episodes Top of the World and Lost and Found. Tagaq, an Inuk throat singer and songwriter who spent some of her youth in Yellowknife, plays a mythical sea goddess.

Maika Harper won best comedy supporting performer for her role as Neevee while the cast won best ensemble performance for a comedy.

North of North also won best writing for a comedy, best original music for a comedy, best direction for a comedy, and best achievement in hair.

The Arctic comedy is set in the fictional community of Ice Cove and follows young Inuk mother Siaja as she builds a new, independent life for herself. It is a co-production between CBC, APTN and Netflix.
