A group representing Northwest Territories businesses has been involuntarily dissolved, documents show, and its annual meeting scheduled for Tuesday never transpired.
The NWT Chamber of Commerce had announced its AGM would take place from 10am until noon on June 23 inside the Nunasi building on Yellowknife’s 48 Street.
When Cabin Radio got there, the conference room specified by the chamber was locked and building staff said they had no booking in the chamber’s name. Only one other person showed up hoping to attend.
Reached after the meeting did not go ahead, Newton Grey, the chamber’s president, told Cabin Radio the AGM had been deferred until at least next month.
An exact date and a reason for its postponement were not provided. Grey could not be reached for further comment.
The NWT Chamber of Commerce, which has a territory-wide mandate, is distinct from the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce, which represents local businesses in and around the city. Several other NWT communities have chambers of their own.
According to records filed with NWT Corporate Registries, the NWT chamber was “involuntarily dissolved” on June 1. The last financial statements for the chamber available through the registry are for the 2023 fiscal year.
The chamber’s website states it is currently developing a new strategic plan to guide its priorities, advocacy efforts, and support for businesses across the NWT in 2026 and beyond.
