The Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation is beginning a new $2-million fundraising campaign titled Close to Home.

In a Tuesday press release, Yellowknife’s hospital foundation said money raised would be invested in new and better equipment, healthcare education bursaries and the beginning of an endowment fund.

Endowment funds usually invest their entire sum, then give out a portion of each year’s investment income while gradually growing the overall fund.

The foundation also said it would start a beautification and art fund for the hospital “to capture the essence of the North and enhance our connection to its rugged beauty.”

Close to Home is the campaign’s name as “when you’re facing health issues, receiving treatments and healing, being close to home and having the comfort of family and community close by is a choice we all want,” the foundation stated.

Telecoms giant Northwestel has provided $300,000 to kick off the new campaign, the foundation said. Sponsors prepared to donate $5,000 or more are being sought.
