The Northwest Territories’ RCMP’s federal investigations unit made a “substantial cocaine seizure” last week.

On May 9, police arrested a 30-year-old man, Noel Tesfazion, outside of a local business.

Police then executed a search warrant on his apartment in Range Lake and found over 2900 pre-packaged bags of crack cocaine, another 157 grams of cocaine, and approximately $1600 in cash.

Tesfazion, who police say is from Yellowknife and Toronto, has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking and possession of proceeds of a crime.

He is being held in custody and will appear in court on Monday at 1:30pm.

“We are pleased to remove these drugs from the distribution chain in the NWT, and hold accountable those individuals who wish to harm our communities,” stated Staff Sergeant Dean Riou.

“This investigation and seizure once again resonates the need to quell the strong demand for crack cocaine in the Northwest Territories.”

RCMP said the arrest was the result of an investigation that began in December.
