RCMP say they have charged a youth in connection with a Yellowknife Facebook Marketplace sale gone wrong.

Police had said in November they were investigating after a Yellowknife resident reported being threatened with what appeared to be a handgun while trying to buy Airpods advertised on Marketplace, Facebook’s online buying and selling platform.

The resident said they met the seller and another person at a parking lot near a business on Old Airport Road on the evening of November 11.

After viewing the product and declining to buy it, the resident said the suspect brandished what appeared to be a handgun and threatened them. The resident said they refused to provide any money and the suspects subsequently fled in a vehicle.

In an update on Monday, police said they had charged a youth in connection to the incident.
