RCMP in Yellowknife say they have closed an investigation into the homicide of a man after the sole suspect passed away.

Police previously said they were investigating the October 15, 2023 death as a homicide.

A man had been found seriously injured at a home on 47 Street that morning, police said at the time. He was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.

In an update on Monday, RCMP identified the man as 31-year-old Brandon Topilikon, saying he had suffered a single stab wound.

However, police said the suspect in the case had also passed away while officers were investigating.

RCMP did not name the suspect, nor identify their cause of death.

Investigators said they determined Topilikon’s death was related to intimate partner violence and have “ruled out the potential that anyone else was involved.” RCMP said they are not looking for other suspects.

Police said the investigation has now been closed and Topilikon’s family have been notified of the outcome.
