YWCA NWT has begun collecting toiletries and care items at drop-off locations around Yellowknife. Donated items go to women, families and youth in the group’s programs.

The organization operates family violence shelters, emergency and transition housing, and a series of youth programs.

From now until May 13, you can donate items like soap, body wash, shampoo, diapers, toothpaste, pads and tampons, razors, deodorant, lotion and lip balm.

You can find the full list of items needed on the YWCA NWT website.

Drop-off locations are Sutherland’s Drugs, Weaver & Devore, and the city’s multiplex and fieldhouse.

“Women and children often arrive at our family violence shelters with only the clothes they are wearing, and many families in our transitional housing programs don’t have extra money for personal care essentials that many people don’t think twice about,” said Hawa Dumbuya-Sesay, YWCA NWT’s executive director, in a press release.

“Our annual toiletry drive has been on hiatus the past three years so we’re hoping to make this toiletry drive the most successful one yet, so people have the supplies they need for their family’s health and wellness.”
