The Longshadow Music Festival returns to Yellowknife in June with Cabin Radio teaming up to present a world premiere from an emerging northern composer.
Kay Sibbeston will play Twin Primes for the first time at a Cabin Radio-sponsored concert opening the festival on Thursday, June 6 at the Sundog Trading Post.
From 7:30pm, Sibbeston’s work will appear alongside performances by Cassandra Blondin Burt, Ryan McCord, LJJ and Rob Elo.
It’s the first of three concerts that form this year’s festival, making its fourth appearance and founded by Yellowknife composer Carmen Braden.
The second event, which is free to attend, sees the Garneau String Quartet play at the legislature’s Great Hall from 7:30pm on Friday, June 7.
On Saturday, June 8, the performers from Thursday and Friday join forces at Top Knight from 7:30pm.
“Musical risks, musical trust, and musical surprises for everyone,” the festival promised, adding that collaborations between Yellowknife singer-songwriters and the string quartet would be a highlight.
A free workshop takes place above the Fiddles ‘n’ Stix music store from 11am till 1pm on Sunday, June 9.
