Dehcho Assembly rescheduled for Fort Simpson in August

The 2024 Dehcho Annual Assembly is now tentatively scheduled for August 13-15 in Fort Simpson, the Dehcho First Nations said on Wednesday.

The assembly was scheduled for June 11-13 in Nahanni Butte.

In late May, the Dehcho First Nations said it was abandoning that plan after leaders and Elders expressed concern for the safety and well-being of participants and communities during wildfire season and with the prospect of fire bans.

Wednesday’s short statement confirmed the new dates – on a “tentative” basis, at least – and invited people to “gather and discuss the issues and priorities of the Dehcho region, as well as to celebrate the rich culture and history of the Dehcho people.”

The assembly is open to the public.
