Twenty firefighters from the Yukon arrive in Fort Good Hope on Friday to replace existing crews and keep fighting a fire on the edge of the community.
Fort Good Hope’s evacuation order, first issued last weekend, was extended on Thursday. The territorial government said it didn’t expect any further update from the regional emergency management organization until Monday next week “unless the situation changes.”
On Facebook, Chief Collin Pierrot said he had attended the fish camp that’s hosting more than 100 evacuees from Fort Good Hope.
Chief Pierrot was expected to take part in a Q&A with evacuees in Norman Wells on Friday, NWT Fire said.
“I’m planning to give a good update to our community members in the Wells and want to make sure they know how the fire activity is going and what we are working on,” Pierrot wrote.
“We are working hard to get everyone home. I ask you all to be patient with us as we have to do everything in a safe manner so no one gets hurt in any way.”
Friday, Saturday and Sunday are expected to be quite warm and dry in the Fort Good Hope area.
There remains no report of any buildings lost due to the fire.
