More than a hundred participants ran, walked or rolled in this year’s Rainbow Run.

The run started and finished at Somba K’e Park in Yellowknife on Saturday morning. The event has been organized by Amanda St Denis and Cameron Twa for the past five years as part of Yellowknife’s Pride Festival.

“I love running, and we have a lot of runners in our community,” said St Denis.

“I also find a lot of folks don’t know how to show up for their community, or how to show up for pride.

“Having a running event is a way that folks that normally wouldn’t show up can show up and still participate.”

At the family-friendly event, run in collaboration with the Yellowknife Multisport Club, participants could choose either a three-kilometre or five-kilometre route. Proceeds from entry fees for the event will go toward the Northern Mosaic Network.

“Everybody’s welcome, and you don’t necessarily have to run,” St Denis said. “Whatever is comfortable… show up and have fun.”

The race begins. Runners were asked to move to the front, and those with wheels or strollers started from the back, to avoid collisions.
