Three people are safe after a floatplane made an emergency landing on Highway 1 between Fort Simpson and Wrigley, authorities say.

The Transportation Safety Board told Cabin Radio it had been notified of an aircraft making a “forced approach onto a road” with one pilot and two passengers on board.

“There were no reported injuries or any reported damage to the aircraft,” the TSB said by email in a statement.

“We are currently gathering information and assessing the occurrence, but we are not deploying investigators. That is all the information we can share at this time.”

Photographs from the scene showed the aircraft, a De Havilland Beaver registered to Simpson Air, at rest at an angle to the side of the road.

Two residents with knowledge of the incident said the aircraft had landed on the road near the Martin River, west of Fort Simpson, early on Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, RCMP said they were “responding to an aviation incident in which an aircraft was reported to have made an emergency landing on a highway.”
