A new food delivery service launching in Yellowknife – at least the fourth with an existing or planning presence in the city – is promising better service for restaurants and customers.

Quickplate says it will use “deals and discounts” to help both residents ordering food and the restaurants it counts as partners.

Sean Watson, owner of QuickPlate, said parent delivery firm RouteBox has been operating in Yellowknife for some time. The business will use its existing workforce to deliver takeout.

The platform has so far partnered with three Yellowknife restaurants – Coyote’s Family Steakhouse, Bluebell Eatery and Sushi North – that are listed on QuickPlate’s website. The company expects to add more restaurants to the list.

“As a local business, we are committed to providing more value with every order while supporting local entrepreneurs in the food services industry,” Watson was quoted as saying in a news release.

“We aim to make food delivery easy, affordable and rewarding for both customers and restaurant partners.”

QuickPlate says a mobile app is being developed “to offer an even more seamless and convenient experience for our customers.” The company expects to launch the app in the fall.

The announcement comes days after global food delivery platform Uber Eats confirmed it will soon begin operating in Yellowknife. The city already has similar door-to-door delivery services in Doordash and SkipTheDishes.

Watson said QuickPlate hopes to stand out “by establishing mutually beneficial partnerships with local restaurants, providing personalized customer service, and engaging with our local community, as this is our home.”

“We recognize the strong sentiment for supporting local businesses,” he said, “and are confident that there is a place for a locally owned and operated service in this space.”
