With time ticking until the big day, Santa Claus needs to make sure all the necessary modes of transport are raring to go.
While reindeer are an important part of the Christmas Eve plan, some parts of the world demand a different driving force.
That’s why Santa has a dog kennel in Yellowknife.
On Saturday, jolly old St Nick took the dog team for a test run under the Latham Island causeway and out into Yellowknife Bay.
To the delight of local children, he found time to toss some treats in their direction en route.
Santa’s dry run is an annual event that isn’t widely advertised but still draws a committed crowd to the frozen lake around Old Town.
The reindogs now have a couple of nights to taper for the big event before they assist in delivering gifts across the territory.
