Frozen Dog Film Festival to feature Oscar-nominated flicks

Shortly after they’re spotlighted at the star-studded Academy Awards in Hollywood, a series of short films will screen at the Snowcastle in Yellowknife.

The Frozen Dog Film Festival is returning to the Snowkings’ Winter Festival this year with a lineup of international Oscar-nominated short animated films.

Presented by Western Arctic Moving Pictures, one of the films featured at the festival is Beautiful Men, a Belgian-French-Dutch film that follows three balding brothers as they travel to Istanbul for hair transplants.

The film comes with the disclaimer that it includes animated nudity, which is also shown in the trailer.

  • In the Shadow of the Cypress, an Iranian film that tells the story of a former captain suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder who lives with his daughter in a house by the sea;
  • Magic Candies, a Japanese film about a boy who gains the ability to communicate with inanimate objects and animals after eating magical candies;
  • Wander to Wonder, a film from the Netherlands, Belgium, France and UK about three stars of a children’s TV show in the 1980s who are left alone in the studio after the show’s creator passes away; and
  • Yuck! – a French film that tells the story of a first kiss.

The 97th Academy Awards will take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Frozen Dog Film Festival will take place at the Snowcastle on Yellowknife Bay on March 4 at 7pm.
