Housing NWT has begun accepting applications from people who own their home and are seeking cash to help with repairs.
There are four programs under which NWT homeowners need to apply by October 31 to receive assistance.
Each program comes with separate eligibility criteria, including testing against an income threshold. Support arrives in the form of a forgivable loan. Depending on your circumstances, co-payments may be required in some instances.
Seniors can get up to $15,000 for minor repairs or up to $50,000 for major repairs under two separate streams, a press release stated.
Any homeowner can apply for up to $5,000 under a preventative maintenance stream for minor repairs and maintenance.
Lastly, there is up to $50,000 available for accessibility improvements under a stream titled mobility modifications.
Applications are accepted until October 31, 2025 and are for “approved repairs taking place the following year, beginning April 1, 2026,” Housing NWT stated.
“District office program advisors will be traveling to communities to meet with residents interested in applying for any of Housing NWT’s homeowner programs,” the housing agency added.
Details of community visits and more information about each program – including how to apply – are available on Housing NWT’s website.
