Construction of a new transitional housing facility in Edzo will begin this summer, the Tłı̨chǫ Government announced this week.

The facility will include nine units for women and children fleeing violence and will be operated by the Tłı̨chǫ Community Services Agency.

The Tłı̨chǫ Government said it secured funding for the project from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Indigenous Services Canada.

The project design is said to be nearly complete and construction is expected to be finished by the fall of 2026.

On Thursday, the basketball hoops currently in the location of the new transitional home will be temporarily relocated to Chief Jimmy Bruneau School’s skating rink area. A new basketball court will be built toward the end of August.
