Heat warnings were issued for some parts of the Northwest Territories on Sunday with temperatures set to hit 30C for most of the coming week.
Yellow heat warnings – the lowest of three levels in Canada’s colour-coded system – now cover the Dehcho communities of Fort Liard, Nahanni Butte, Sambaa K’e, Fort Simpson, Jean Marie River and Wrigley.
Environment Canada said “temperatures reaching 31C combined with overnight lows near 15C are expected for more than five days” in Fort Simpson and Fort Liard, with Wrigley set for highs of 29C.
Elsewhere in the NWT, Fort Smith is forecast to experience at least four days of uninterrupted 30C-plus weather starting on Wednesday.
Temperatures in Yellowknife are expected to gradually increase through the week, pushing toward 30C by the coming weekend.
