A new chiropractic clinic serving the South Slave region will open in Hay River next week.

Dr Niz Saab said he’s been practising for 25 years in Alberta, Australia and beyond, and currently runs a clinic in Edmonton.

He said one of his patients who had worked in the NWT suggested he open a clinic in the South Slave due to a lack of available chiropractic services in the area.

“We got to the point where it seemed that Hay River was the best option for the whole South Slave region to set up a clinic,” said Saab.

He said he has spent time working in a friend’s clinic in High Level and La Crête, Alberta.

“I just was moved by the fact that people appreciate it so much,” said Saab.

He explained that from his clinic in Edmonton, someone could walk for two minutes and find another chiropractor.

“It’s a bit of a luxury out here. In the northern communities, there’s just no access,” said Saab, explaining that this is one of the reasons he decided to pursue a practice in the NWT.

He said he’s heard that previously, people in the South Slave would make the trek to Yellowknife to see a chiropractor.

Saab said he’ll continue to operate his clinic in Edmonton from Monday through Wednesday, but will fly to Hay River every weekend to run the new practice.

He said he began promoting the new clinic earlier in the week and already has more than 30 new patients lined up.

Saab said he’d like to eventually start offering orthotics and is looking to bring in a class-four laser, which he said doesn’t replace the work of a physiotherapist but helps some injuries heal faster.

Hay River Chiropractic is set to open on May 22 and will be located on Courtoreille Street downtown.
