The Town of Hay River is now accepting applications for the second phase of a grant program aimed at encouraging housing construction.

Hay River first began accepting applications for its residential housing development grant program last year.

Property owners and developers can apply for grants up to $35,000 for new multi-family residential units and $20,000 for accessory dwelling units on a first-come first-served basis.

“We recognize the urgent need for more housing options in our community, and these grants are a vital step towards addressing that need,” Mayor Kandis Jameson stated. “By providing financial support, we aim to encourage developers to invest in our community and enhance the quality of life for all residents through affordable housing options.”

The program’s budget is fully funded by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s national housing accelerator fund. Hay River received $2 million from that federal fund in April 2024.
