Hay River has released its 2025-28 strategic plan, a document reflecting “collective aspirations of Hay River residents, businesses and community organizations.”
The plan, announced on September 4, was created by town council and administration in spring this year with a focus on “strengthening infrastructure, advancing sustainable practices, supporting a rejuvenated economy and ensuring effective governance.”
“Our strategic plan is about more than projects and timelines – it’s about people, partnerships, and the future of Hay River,” Mayor Kandis Jameson was quoted as saying.
“This plan provides us with a clear direction to enhance the quality of life for our residents while embracing innovation and preparing for the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Among the priorities for the next two years are building a new water treatment plant and solid waste management facility, completing a community economic development plan, introducing a full asset management system, and developing an internal health and safety program for staff.
Building and completing water and sewer replacements for the 553 neighbourhood and expanding cemetery capacity are other goals. The town also aims to implement renewable energy initiatives, update wildfire protection plans, and complete flood mitigation projects.
The plan will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains responsive to the community’s needs, the town said.
Residents are encouraged to read the full plan and share their perspectives.
