Annie Steen has been appointed by the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation as chair of the Inuvialuit Development Corporation, or IDC, for the next three years.

Steen, who has been a director on the IDC board since 2020, replaces Robert McLeod in the leadership role.

McLeod was chair from 2021 until 2025. During that time he helped pay off the IDC’s debt and secure funding for growth, the IRC said in a statement on Monday.

Steen “will use her deep understanding of IDC’s operations to continue IDC’s growth in a stable and sustainable manner,” the IRC wrote, noting Steen has spent her life working in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.

Originally from Tuktoyaktuk, Steen most recently oversaw the ongoing development of the Saliqmiut centre in her home community.

“IRC looks forward to working with Annie and her unwavering commitment to the advancement of Inuvialuit economic and social priorities,” the statement continued.

Steen was appointed to her new role at an August meeting and will serve until August 2028.
