RCMP in Fort McPherson are investigating after a person was found dead inside a burned cabin near the community.
In a Friday news release, RCMP said officers were told someone had been checking on a family member and their cabin “after not hearing from them for several days” when they came upon the burned structure.
“Human remains were located inside the wreckage,” police stated.
An investigation has begun with help from the NWT Coroner’s Service and the Office of the Fire Marshal.
Nobody involved in that investigation was publicly identified by police. The cabin’s precise location was not given.
“Officers remain on scene at this time. Investigative support is being provided by G Division’s Forensic Identification Services and Major Crimes Unit,” RCMP stated.
