The territorial government is accepting applications to cover up to half of the cost of installing electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the NWT.

Businesses, governments, institutions, and organizations can apply for up to $7,500 for level two charger connectors and up to $99,999 for level three fast chargers to cover half the cost of the installation.

The chargers must be installed in places that benefit many people, including public places and street parking, multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces, and light-duty vehicle fleet facilities.

There were just seven level three chargers in the NWT as of September 2025, with one more on the way – strung together to create a “charging corridor” between the territory and Alberta.

“The program is designed to make EV adoption more accessible in the North by improving access to reliable charging networks,” explained a Wednesday news release.

Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2026. There is a simplified application for level two chargers and a detailed application for level three chargers.

The initiative is funded by the federal government’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program.
