Wind warning for Yellowknife, Tłı̨chǫ, Sahtu, Dehcho, South Slave

Environment Canada issued a widespread wind warning for the Northwest Territories on Wednesday, covering everywhere from the Sahtu to the Dehcho, including Yellowknife.

“Strong winds that may cause damage are occurring or forecast to occur,” the warning read.

“Wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h will develop today as a strong low pressure system moves through the NWT, with isolated gusts reaching up to 90 km/h possible.

North of Great Slave Lake, winds should die down late on Wednesday afternoon, Environment Canada stated. South of the lake, winds may remain strong into the night.

The warning applies to Yellowknife, Norman Wells, Tulita, Fort Simpson, Jean Marie River, Wrigley, Fort Providence, Kakisa, Hay River, Enterprise, Fort Resolution, Wekweètì, Whatì and Behchokǫ̀.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage,” Environment Canada warned.
