A still from Inkwo for When the Starving Return.

Inkwo for When the Starving Return, an animated adaptation of Tłı̨chǫ author Richard Van Camp’s short story Wheetago War, can now be streamed on the National Film Board’s website.

The short film had its premiere in Toronto last year.

It was added to the NFB’s website on Monday, a day ahead of International Animation Day on October 28.

The 18-minute film, directed by Métis filmmaker Amanda Strong, is billed by the NFB as the story of gender-shifting warrior Dove in a future haunted by monstrous beings.

Dove “must harness ancestral medicine” – Inkwo – “to defend their community and restore balance to a fractured world,” the summary reads.
