RCMP have arrested and charged two people from Fort Simpson after seizing suspected crack cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop in Fort Providence.

According to a Monday press release, police conducted the traffic stop around 4:15pm on Wednesday, November 5, and located “drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking in plain view inside the vehicle.”

RCMP said further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 53.44 grams of suspected crack cocaine and $565 in cash.

RCMP said they have arrested Jermaine Gargan, 42, and Harley Betsedea, 27, both from Fort Simpson, in connection to the traffic stop.

Police have charged both Gargan and Betsedea with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. Police also charged Gargan with operation of a vehicle while suspended and Betsedea with failure to comply with a condition of a release order.
