The NWT health authority’s electronic medical record system went down across the territory on Friday morning, disrupting some appointments.
The precise issue was not immediately clear. Shortly after 1pm, officials said a fix was being applied.
Alexander Keefe, a senior communications officer at the health authority, suggested this kind of system outage isn’t unheard-of but added complications on Friday led to some appointments not going ahead as planned.
“We rely on established downtime procedures in these situations. This morning, some sites experienced challenges implementing those procedures and required additional support, which led to some appointment disruptions,” Keefe told Cabin Radio by email.
“Appointments are being assessed on a case-by-case basis. In most instances, staff are still able to facilitate appointments, and patients are only being rebooked if an appointment cannot be supported during the outage.”
Keefe said a resolution had been identified by early Friday afternoon and was being distributed system-wide.
He said patients were encouraged to attend their scheduled appointments.
