RCMP in Fort Smith say they have arrested and charged three people related to an investigation in which they seized 16 firearms.
According to a Tuesday press release, RCMP responded to a report that a person was in possession of a firearm on Whipoorwill Crescent on Saturday, November 15.
Police said they were able to resolve the situation and seized a firearm that had been involved.
RCMP said further investigation revealed several other firearms offences had occurred at the same location.
Officers obtained and executed a search warrant, the RCMP said, and seized an additional 15 firearms. Police alleged many of those firearms were unsafely stored and loaded with ammunition.
RCMP have have charged Leonard Cardinal, 68, Darrell Cardinal, 47, and Keigan Cardinal, 23, each with careless storage of firearms in connection to the investigation.
Police additionally charged Keigan with possession of a firearm without a licence, careless handling of a firearm and failure to comply with a probation order.
Darrell faces additional charges of possession of a firearm without a licence, careless handling of a firearm, uttering threats, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, pointing a firearm and assault with a weapon.
Darrell has been remanded into custody, according to police, while Keigan and Leonard were released to appear in court at a later date.
