RCMP in Tuktoyaktuk say they have seized 31.5 litres of illicit alcohol and charged one man after searching a home in the community.
Police said they began investigating after receiving information that people from Tuktoyaktuk had purchased “a significant quantity” of alcohol in Dawson City, Yukon.
According to a Monday press release, officers searched a home in Tuktoyaktuk on November 27 and located 36 750ml bottles and 12 375ml bottles of vodka, totalling 31.5 litres.
In connection to the investigation, RCMP said they charged one man under NWT’s Liquor Act with unlawful sale and supply of alcohol as well as failure to comply with regulations by possessing more than 2,280ml, or 2.28 litres, of spirits in Tuktoyaktuk.
“Tuktoyaktuk RCMP remains committed to addressing the harm bootlegging causes our northern communities and encourages the public to share any information they have on suspected bootlegging with police,” Monday’s release states.
NWT RCMP said they were not naming the man charged in accordance with their naming policy.
Police said the man is set to appear in court in Tuktoyaktuk on the charges on February 3.
