Police in Yellowknife on Monday appealed for help identifying and finding a man who wore a balaclava while robbing a gas station.

RCMP said the man entered the Shell gas station on Range Lake Road late on Friday night last week, then demanded money from the cashier.

“The cashier complied and the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money southbound on Range Lake Road,” police said in a statement.

Police forensics experts and a dog team have been brought in to help the investigation. Now, RCMP have launched a public appeal for residents with information to come forward.

“The RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect,” read a statement issued on Monday.

“At the time of the incident, just before midnight, there may have been customers outside the gas station or in the neighbouring businesses that may have observed the incident or recognize the suspect.”

Police described the man as six feet tall and thin. He was wearing a black and grey camo jacket, grey sweatpants with a black stripe, black shoes, and a pair of yellow gloves at the time of the robbery.

RCMP said anyone with information should call the Yellowknife detachment at 867-669-1111 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
