Lucy Kuptana has resumed her role as the NWT’s housing minister and minister responsible for the status of women.
Kuptana temporarily stepped back from her work as a territorial minister late last year to run in the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation chair election.
Premier RJ Simpson took over the housing porfolio while Lesa Semmler took over responsibility for the status of women.
While Kuptana made it to the final round in Tuesday’s election of a new IRC leader, she ultimately lost out to Erwin Elias. The two formerly worked together when Elias was Tuktoyaktuk’s mayor and Kuptana its senior administrator.
In a brief Wednesday news release, the NWT government confirmed Kuptana has now resumed her ministerial responsibilities.
