A Yellowknife resident appealed on Monday for the return of two military medals he said had been stolen from his truck.

Trevor O’Neill, who describes himself as a former combat engineer, said the medals and some loose change were the only items taken. He told Cabin Radio he had “not much else to go on” after finding his truck broken into.

The first medal is a Canadian Forces’ Decoration, said O’Neill. The decoration is ordinarily awarded to members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have completed 12 years of military service.

The medal has O’Neill’s name imprinted on its edge.

The second is the General Campaign Star South-West Asia, with clasp – a medal awarded to those who served in Afghanistan and the vicinity.

“They are worthless to the person that stole them but worth a lot to me,” said O’Neill, who lives on Con Road.

Posting online, he wrote: “If you know who stole them, please return them.”
