Yellowknifers can once again borrow bicycles for free this summer as the Shift NWT program returns for its third year.
The volunteer-run program allows residents to try out bike commuting through a two-week lending model.
Since its launch in 2024, Shift NWT said, it has evolved into a non-profit focused on promoting active mobility and allowing people to “experience the benefits of a less car-dependent lifestyle.”
According to a Thursday news release, bookings open April 5 with the first sessions starting May 1.
This year’s fleet includes electric bikes, electric cargo bikes and electric trikes.
“We want users to have time to embed the bike into their daily travel habits and see how well it fits into their lifestyles,” Shift NWT stated.
