One person has died and another is seriously injured after two snowmobiles collided near the NWT-Saskatchewan border, police say.
In a Wednesday news release, Fort Smith RCMP said the incident occurred on Sunday, April 5 and involved members of a hunting party from Saskatchewan.
The border between the territory and province is a remote area. Police said the collision occurred about 420 km east of Fort Smith, one of the nearest NWT communities.
“One of the riders suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries while the other rider suffered a fatal injury and had died,” police stated.
“The riders were part of a group of hunters from Saskatchewan. The group has since evacuated from the area.”
RCMP said an investigation is ongoing in partnership with Saskatchewan RCMP and the NWT and Saskatchewan coroners’ services.
Nobody involved was named in Wednesday’s news release.
