One person has died and another is seriously injured after two snowmobiles collided near the NWT-Saskatchewan border, police say.

In a Wednesday news release, Fort Smith RCMP said the incident occurred on Sunday, April 5 and involved members of a hunting party from Saskatchewan.

The border between the territory and province is a remote area. Police said the collision occurred about 420 km east of Fort Smith, one of the nearest NWT communities.

“One of the riders suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries while the other rider suffered a fatal injury and had died,” police stated.

“The riders were part of a group of hunters from Saskatchewan. The group has since evacuated from the area.”
