The NWT government is planning to hold community meetings in the Sahtu to share updates on the Mackenzie Valley Highway.
In a Monday press release, the territory said upcoming meetings in Fort Good Hope and Colville Lake will give members of the public an opportunity to learn about upcoming work and timelines as well as ask questions and share their thoughts on the project.
A meeting in Fort Good Hope is set to take place at the community hall on April 23 at 6pm.
A meeting in Colville Lake is set to take place at the school gym on April 24 starting at noon.
A member of the highway project team is also set to be available at the Sahtu Secretariat Incorporated office in Norman Wells from April 20 to 24, May 25 to 29 and June 15 to 19.
The NWT government said the representative will be available to meet with community members to share project updates and respond to questions or concerns.
The territorial government has previously held community information meetings on the highway project in Fort Simpson, Délı̨nę and Tulita.
The Mackenzie Valley Highway project proposes an all-season highway from Wrigley to Norman Wells and then extending the road to Inuvik. It is currently undergoing an environmental assessment.
Supporters of the project say it will provide access to critical minerals as well as support opportunities, easier travel and reduced cost of living for NWT communities.
Last month, Prime Minister Mark Carney referred the proposed highway to the federal Major Projects Office.
He said work on the highway could start as soon as this summer with planned initial work including relocation of the Oscar Creek Bridge, realignment of Christina Creek and realignment of Highway One.
NWT MP Rebecca Alty has said the federal government is repurposing funding previously allocated in 2019 to support that work.
