RCMP in Hay River say they are carrying out an operation on the town’s Pine Crescent, urging people to avoid the area if possible.
“Residents of the community may notice an increased police presence,” police stated in a brief news release just after 4:30pm.
“We also ask that people do not share photos, videos, live streams, or details about police activity, officer locations, or movements on social media,” that news release stated. “Sharing this type of information can impact the safety of everyone involved.”
The nature of Monday’s operation was not immediately clear.
Police said an update will be provided “when more information is available.”

The street, in the town’s 553 neighbourhood, has been the site of multiple police operations in recent years.
