Tłı̨chǫ Government plans expansion of child welfare services

The Tłı̨chǫ Government says it is receiving $1.2 million in funding to “support the development of child and family services” in its communities.

In a Monday news release, the Tłı̨chǫ Government said the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation’s child welfare legislation, passed in 2021, was an inspiration.

The source of the funding was not stated, though an accompanying image carried the federal government’s logo.

“This funding will enable the TG to enhance its capacity in child welfare programming, explore jurisdictional considerations, and plan for future child welfare services that reflect Tłı̨chǫ values and priorities,” the TG stated.

“The IRC’s work demonstrates how Indigenous-led governance and capacity-building investments can create meaningful improvements in child welfare systems.”
