The NWT government says the risk of flooding due to ice has passed for Alavik, and all communities across the territory.
In its final break-up report for the season, the territory said water levels at Aklavik peaked on May 23 and are now average for this time of year. The report said the ice front on the Peel channel of the Mackenzie River is now around 50km downstream from the community.
On the middle channel, the GNWT said, water levels peaked on May 26 and have since been falling. It said the ice front on the middle channel is now downstream of Horseshoe Bend.
The territory advised cabin owners and land users to use caution when travelling through the delta as water levels will fluctuate as ice continues to break up.
Break-up is progressing through the northern part of the Mackenzie Delta, the report said, and water levels are continuing to rise on the Napoiak channel above Shallow Bay.
The NWT government said it will continue to release monthly water monitoring bulletins alongside additional reports as needed.
