Horses are back in Yellowknife after a near three-year absence.

All of Yellowknife’s horses were sent south to Alberta during the 2023 wildfire evacuation. They ended up never making the journey back.

Earlier this month, non-profit NT Equestrian filled the absence that has persisted since by bringing four horses from Hay River to the city. Cabin Radio’s Jasmine Nasogaluak went to meet them.

The group now hopes to provide riding lessons, volunteer opportunities and community outreach in the weeks ahead.
